There I was, minding my own business

Sometimes art imitates life. I was hired to photograph interior and exterior changes over the previous year at the Muscatine Art Center. The pergola had been moved to a new area. When I noticed it, I was completely distracted by its placement and background. It reminded me of a Maxfield Parrish print without a human subject, and struck me as a still-life itself. My first thought was to arrange a still-life within the pergola, but that would create logistical problems with scale. I filed the idea in the back of my head to germinate. After working at my current project for a few months, I remembered this scene. It will show up sooner or later during the next year.
