“Dr. Paul’s Folly”

The Tabor Home Vineyard is situated in a 360 degree Grant Wood painting. It's an excellent example of agricultural diversity. The Tabor family has been farming on the land for 5 generations. Tabor Home is the oldest estate winery in the state of Iowa. Dr. Paul Tabor returned to the farm in 1989 after several years as a biology professor in Indiana to start a vineyard in the land where corn is king. I’m happy he didn’t listen to the experts when they told him he couldn’t grow grapes in Iowa that would make good wine. Grant Wood also returned to Iowa to create what many consider to be his greatest paintings. Grant Wood inspired the background for this image for obvious reasons. I decided that adding a nod to Vincent Van Gogh with the sunflowers would complete the trio of stubborn visionaries.
